(EN) Devlog #2: Demo update, map teasers & more!
Hey! Welcome to our second Devlog for "La Salamanca"!
In this devblog, we will be talking about various topics related to the latest version of the demo, some teasers of future levels and more.
We Updated the Demo!
This small update mainly brings some technical fixes necessary to make the experience more fluid, and some level design tweaks.
Some of the highlights are: For this new version of the demo, there will no longer be a time limit during the VHS section. This will allow players to experience everything the demo has to offer without the pressure of time running out. This is why the "timer" will now show the elapsed time instead of the remaining time.
This time limit mechanic will only be used if we take the demo to an exhibition or event, where it will be used mainly to give more people the chance to play it.
In addition to this, during this time there were some improvements in the design of the first level, which were directly applied in this version of the demo. Some changes include the addition of baseboards in the hallways of the complex, more variation in the interiors of each room, bidets!, the entrance to the mansion (which is clearly not functional), the elimination of that empty unused room that every the departments had, among others.
A small note was also included at the beginning of the VHS section next to the spaces for the pictures, to give a little more guidance to the more lost players.
Along with these tweaks there were some technical errors/bugs that were fixed, such as being able to move during some cinematics if you pressed the "Escape" button, some doors that remained open after switching to the VHS section, the default volume being 0, etc
A quick look of the next levels
After the apartment complex, during the game's story, players will move through multiple levels, the next two being The Mansion and The Parking.
The Mansion, an ancient, mysterious and desolate place, home to the original founder of the apartment complex.
The Parking, a necessary place for people who want to come and go from anywhere, any apartment complex should have one, right? This one has two "levels", one used primarily for storage, and the other with parking itself. Currently, it is not in very good condition.
New Systems - Player Movement
In this last week, one of our programmers, Alejandro, has been working on a complete overhaul of the Player's movement system. This was written from scratch, implementing several Unity systems that will allow us to improve player input and even the game's cinematics in the future.
(Please note that everything shown here is still in early development and is subject to change, almost all visual elements shown like models or animations are Placeholders and aren't representative of the final product)
The player can now crouch and see their own body when looking down. In addition to this, the animations of the player's "camera" or "POV" were improved, which will now never be fixed and will have different animations depending on the player's movements, for greater realism and immersion.
¡And that's it!
We hope you have enjoyed this little Devblog, and that you stay tuned for the coming months, as very interesting and important things are coming for the project.
See you in the next Devblog!
